He First Loved Us

This summer we were able to sponsor a child through Compassion International. His name is Jefri and he lives in Nicaragua. I was writing my letter to him introducing our family and realized I needed a sponsor number to put on the letter. When I called Compassion, I became aware that the sponsorship had not been processed yet and that Jefri doesn't yet know he has been "adopted." I was saddened that Jefri didn't yet know the love and acceptance of his sponsorship, but I was already rejoicing in prayer and participation of his life.

Isn't that similar to God and His "adoption" of us as sons and daughters? Christ said He fornew those that would be His. That if we are Christians then we are coheirs with Him in God's family. (See Romans 8:15-17 and Galatians 4:5.) God loved us first before we knew or loved Him (1 John 4:1a).

"How great is the love that the Father has lavished on us that we should be called the children of God!" 1 John 3:1a

We are blessed to be able to extend God's love to Jefri through financial and prayer support and we can't wait for him to recognize that he has been chosen and is a part of our family!
